It’s December 16, 1773.  Colonists from Massachusetts have dressed up as Native Americans, and are approaching a British merchant ship anchored in Boston Harbor.  The men spend several hours throwing boxes of tea overboard, in protest of the Tea Act, which enabled the British government to tax the colonists, though they were not represented in Parliament.  The bill put in place a monopoly to help the most powerful British company, the British East India Company, which was facing bankruptcy.  In response to this, colonists burnt a ship in Annapolis Harbor, and threw tea overboard in Boston Harbor. 

Fast forward 236 years, and you will find that the government is now offering bailouts to some of the biggest names in financing and lending, and in the auto industry. Government has begun its encroachment upon private businesses, by demanding certain CEO’s be fired, and by bailing out companies based off of campaign contributions.  Instead of representing their constituents, legislators admit that they have not read the 1,000 page Stimulus bill, which has a price tag of $1 Trillion.  Instead of keeping his promise to end earmarks and pork barrel spending, the President passed the Omnibus Spending Bill that had over 8,500 earmarks.  Have you tried calling your Senator or Representative before a vote?  If you have, then you know how Congress’s switchboards are conveniently ‘shut down.’ We have tried to contact our representatives many times, but our calls go unanswered, or we are hung up on.  Congress is not interested in your opinion, but they are interested in promoting themselves as “saviors of the environment,” the one who passed the largest spending bill, or “redistributors of wealth.”

We, the People, are being taxed without being represented.  They, the Government, are passing on a tremendous debt that our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will have to pay off.  Bernard Madoff was convicted for the same crime the National Government is committing every day.  Madoff’s Ponzi scheme relied on new investors to pay money into an account that paid off the earlier investors.  It works until the next group of investors is smaller than the original group.  The government is relying on future generations to be larger than the last, so that they can pay for all of the social spending and welfare programs.  The National Deficit is over $11 TRILLION at this moment.  It is expected to double within the next ten years.  If everyone is given their fair share of the National Debt, then everyone will have to fork over $36,000 to Uncle Sam.  Our youth who have not even graduated from high school are already in massive debt – that the government created.  Each child born in 2009 already owes $22,000! 

It is time to stand up, and to say NO MORE!  For too long we have been silent, and we have suffered financially for it.  Write your local, State, and Federal representatives, to tell them that you have had enough, and tell them to shape up, or be voted out.
